Doug Stevenson, over at Story Theater International, has a lovely post about how to handle your audience's praise.
This isn't something that we train for as speakers, and many of us feel uncomfortable with compliments and heartfelt thanks and don't know what to do when we're surrounded by appreciative audience members.
Here's an excerpt:
"At that moment, it's really not about you. It's about them. You just gave them a gift, now it's their turn. Let them give you a gift."
Of course, as a speaker, it's never really about you, is it?
Go read Doug's tips and next time you speak, you'll be open and ready to receive your audience's gift of praise.
