My favorite part of this post - the part that so resonates with me is this entire section (worth repeating):

"I started realizing that I was interacting with people every day who might be going through their own rough times. Maybe they were sick, maybe they were in pain, maybe they were living in fear, maybe their cat (or mom, or child) had cancer. I realized that, if I could walk around looking "normal," so could other people. I realized that people who seemed like jerks might be feeling the same way I was feeling inside. I wanted to be more open to people, more friendly, more accepting."

Thank you so much for writing this series. I appreciate your heart and words used to express it so very much!

~AllisonAllison Sumpterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01077485407413158426noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35758167.post-4688546728076729972010-01-11T12:40:51.662-08:002010-01-11T12:40:51.662-08:00Thanks, Liz! I've been on a similar path before too...

I think you might like the David Rock talk I mentioned on FB- don't know if you saw it. Your description of what you did was to go from what he would call "narrative circuit" to "direct experience". The talk link is:

http://stream.matttrent.com/post/267369961/your-brain-at-work-google-tech-talk-by-david

I got his book, "Your Brain at Work" which has exercises in how to practice this switch as well as how to most effectively use your brain in every day life. I bet you would come up with some great insights on how to use it for public speaking- I'd love to read about your take on it!

-Best,
Lizknitgurlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01318647886988362970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35758167.post-9339809212364469802010-01-08T15:58:47.044-08:002010-01-08T15:58:47.044-08:00Thanks for reading, Kristin. :-)Thanks for reading, Kristin. :-)Lisa Braithwaitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10203279973932837403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35758167.post-80188561157478802052010-01-08T14:42:41.025-08:002010-01-08T14:42:41.025-08:00Lisa, this is an awesome serious of posts and very...Lisa, this is an awesome serious of posts and very brave of you to share your personal experience. I think we all have some level of this stuff going on, and sometimes it's hard to determine when we need help beyond the coping strategies we adopt to get by. Thanks for sharing your story.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01019101750017317886noreply@blogger.com
