Oregon update

On our way to Hood River on Monday we stopped off at Multnomah Falls. Usually I would pose up on that bridge (you can see it toward the bottom of the photo, to the right of the falls), but this time we just stopped by for a quick look.

Walking to the falls, we encountered a male Coho salmon lounging in a shallow part of the creek (no picture; he blended in too well with the pebbles on the bottom), waiting for the females to start arriving to spawn. The guide told us that the water in this creek is as pure as distilled water, that the females will arrive in the next week, and that the salmon spawning there had traveled 120 miles from the ocean.

Amazing.

(More public speaking posts to follow!)
