Learning vs. doing

I spent most of last week in New Hampshire at Alicia Forest's Online Business Building Workshop (OBBW).

The content was amazing; I took so many notes and brought home so much good material, I don't even know what to do with it (okay, that's not true... I know what to do with it). I met successful motivated entrepreneurs and joined a community that I will forever be grateful to be part of.

What had the biggest impact on me, however, was one of the very first things Alicia said on day one (paraphrasing):

"You might be thinking, 'I already know that.' You've heard it before. But are you doing it?"

As someone who admits to being a know-it-all, yes, I'm one of those people who tends to go into workshops with a less-than-open mind. That's why it's so easy for me to recognize it in my audiences and clients.

Now to give myself, my audiences and my clients some credit, we wouldn't be attending the training or working with a coach if we really thought we knew it all.

However, because of easy access to constant information, sometimes we think we have it all nailed down. We know everything we need to know. Or we're just waiting for the right person to come along and put the pieces together and tell us exactly what to do with all this information, so we can finally put it to work for us and achieve the huge success we know is waiting.

But no. That's not how it works. We need to implement what we're learning, or it means nothing. We need to take action. It's a waste of time to gather information and attend workshops and read books and blogs if we're not going to do anything with what we've learned, or if we're just waiting around for the final piece of the puzzle to fall into place.

Five years ago, I bought my first info product from Alicia Forest. It was a teleseminar on how to put on teleseminars. In the years since then, I have taken a bunch of trainings on teleseminars and webinars, and I've presented them for clients and for other groups, but I had yet to implement what I had learned and actually host my own.

Until today! I have kicked myself in the butt and I am finally implementing this fall!

First up is my free teleseminar "3 Surefire Ways to Glue Your Audience to Their Seats Without Krazy Glue, Hot Glue or Mod Podge." Will you join me? Maybe you'll be inspired, too.
