Does teaching make you better at what you do?

"Teaching teaches me a lot. I'm not the first one to say this, but I really think I became a better pianist after I started teaching." Hee-Kyung Juhn, pianist and UC Santa Barbara lecturer in music.

I read this quote in the local paper yesterday and it really hit home for me. I find that, since I started coaching, I am so much more conscious of what I'm doing as a speaker.

As I work with my clients to find new ways to express old ideas, find new ways to communicate using their body as well as their words, and find new ways to make their messages come alive for their audiences, I find new ways as well.

Articulating concepts, principles and philosophies helps me to internalize these concepts, principles and philosophies for myself.

Have you found that you do better those things you teach others to do?
